However, Microsoft has also rationalized a few very useful features for some users.<\/p>\n<p>So currently the <strong>drag &amp; drop to the taskbar does not work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, in Windows 10, you could grab a file, for example an image, with the left mouse button and drag it to the application, for example Outlook, to paste the file into an email. Then the application opened and you could drop or paste the grabbed files into the respective application, if the application was suitable for it. Unfortunately, the practical drag&amp;drop no longer works under Windows 11. According to relevant reports, Microsoft will probably reintroduce this feature with a future update due to many user complaints. To do this, right-click on the key and select &#8220;<strong>Change&#8230;<\/strong>&#8220;.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_17874\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17874\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17874 size-full\" title=\"Registry Editor UndockingDisabled Taskbar Drag&amp;Drop Win11\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-rename-modify-key-undockingdisabled-en.jpg\" alt=\"Change screenshot key value in registry\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-rename-modify-key-undockingdisabled-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-rename-modify-key-undockingdisabled-en-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-rename-modify-key-undockingdisabled-en-350x250.jpg 350w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-rename-modify-key-undockingdisabled-en-420x300.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17874\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Right click and &#8220;Modify&#8230;&#8221; select<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>Set the value to &#8220;1!\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_17876\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17876\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17876 size-full\" title=\"Edit DWord value (32-bit)\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-key-undockingdisabled-set-value-to-1.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot Key Wert UndockingDisabled set to 1\" width=\"324\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-key-undockingdisabled-set-value-to-1.jpg 324w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/registry-key-undockingdisabled-set-value-to-1-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17876\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UndockingDisabled Set value to 1<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>After that click <strong>OK<\/strong> and close the registry.<\/li>\n<li>Finally restart Windows 11<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After that the Windows taskbar appears again in the old format with the known functionalities.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Update_11122021\"><\/span>[Update 11.12.2021]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>For me the registry change brings some undesirable side effects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows starts much slower when booting<\/li>\n<li>the Windows start menu cannot be opened (neither over the mouse nor over the Win key)<\/li>\n<li>taskbar icons are arranged similarly to Win10 link, but no time is displayed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_of_ThirdParty-Products\"><\/span>Use of ThirdParty-Products<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are a few software products that restore the old Windows 10 functionality.<\/p>\n<p>One product is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/startisback.com\/tbd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">StartIsBack<\/a>&#8221; which Andy already reported about for <a href=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/en\/16280\/move-windows-11-task-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">problems with moving the taskbar to top, left or right<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another tool to fix the drag&amp;drop to the taskbar is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.softpedia.com\/get\/Tweak\/System-Tweak\/Windows-11-Drag-Drop-to-the-Taskbar-Fix.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows11DragAndDropToTaskbarFix<\/a>, which is also available on GitHub including code.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime also on microsoft website is a free tool called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/p\/drag-and-drop-toolbar-for-windows-11\/9ppr08ftrq0k?cid=msft_web_chart&amp;activetab=pivot:overviewtab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drag and Drop Toolbar for Windows 11<\/a>&#8221; developed from V3TApps. But it inserts a extra toolbar on the top of the screen.<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone likes to have to install additional tools because of this little annoying thing. Therefore, alternatives can be used to drag files to Taskbar.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Alternative_procedures\"><\/span>Alternative procedures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>These approaches do not quite fulfill the desired functionality, but rather represent alternatives to dragging and dropping onto the taskbar. The goal is the same, only the way is different.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_shortcut_Alt_Shift\"><\/span>Use shortcut Alt + Shift<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One variant is to use the key combination <strong>Alt + Shift<\/strong>. This bypasses the taskbar. The prerequisite is that the target application is already open.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>grab the file(s) with the <strong>left mouse button<\/strong> as usual<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>Alt + Shift<\/strong>; an overview of all open programs is opened<\/li>\n<li>press Shift repeatedly and select the target program<\/li>\n<li>release left mouse button (drop)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_Split_Screen\"><\/span>Use Split Screen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You can also use the &#8220;<em>Split Screen<\/em>&#8221; function to drag files from one application to another. This function allows you to position two or more applications side by side on the screen at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, move the mouse pointer to the maximize icon and stay there briefly until a selection window appears.
