Please enable it and try again.\r\n<\/pre>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Install_optional_features_for_Linux\"><\/span>Install optional features for Linux<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Basically, the message tells us, that some components are missing. We can install by opening the settings and go to &#8220;Optional features&#8221;. Scroll down, and you find the option for &#8220;More Windows features&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_2-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"838\" height=\"430\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_2-1.png 838w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_2-1-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_2-1-768x394.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 838px) 100vw, 838px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This will open the &#8220;Windows_Features&#8221; window. We have to select two features here: Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Subsystem for Linux.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_3-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_3-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"394\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_3-1.png 440w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_3-1-300x269.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have to select both, without the &#8220;Virtual Machine Platform&#8221; we will otherwise get the following error message.<\/p>\n<pre>\r\nWslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x80370102\r\nError: 0x80370102 The virtual machine could not be started because a required feature is not installed.\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>This is also the only difference in the home edition of Windows. In the Pro version this feature is called the &#8220;Hyper-V Platform&#8221;, but since the feature is not available in the home version, it seems that Microsoft just renamed it.<\/p>\n<p>Now we have to do a restart.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Update_the_kernel_component\"><\/span>Update the kernel component<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If we run our Linux system again, another error message is here to annoy us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_4-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_4-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"986\" height=\"123\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_4-1.png 986w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_4-1-300x37.png 300w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/wsl_en_4-1-768x96.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 986px) 100vw, 986px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<pre>\r\nWslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x800701bc\r\nError: 0x800701bc WSL 2 requires an update to its kernel component. For information please visit \r\n<\/pre>\n<p>However this message is easy to fix, we have to <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/wsl2kernel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download the update from the Microsoft homepage<\/a>.
