music library (900)<\/p>\n<p>Unable to add music share &#8220;\\\\NetworkAddress\\FolderXY\\Music&#8221; music library (1002)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58697\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58697\" style=\"width: 468px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58697\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/fehlermeldung-sonos-freigabe-ordner-nas-qnap-geht-nicht.jpg\" alt=\"Adding music sharing music library not possible\" width=\"468\" height=\"647\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/fehlermeldung-sonos-freigabe-ordner-nas-qnap-geht-nicht.jpg 468w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/fehlermeldung-sonos-freigabe-ordner-nas-qnap-geht-nicht-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58697\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Error message that music library cannot be added<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The error message comes one after the other in two variants, once with error code 900 and once with error code 1002.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sonos_device_is_blocked_by_QNAP_NAS\"><\/span>Sonos device is blocked by QNAP NAS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Attempting to access my music files on the NAS in this way resulted in my Sonos device being blocked by the QTS operating system of the QNAP NAS. The IP address was automatically added to a blocking list for 60 minutes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58702\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58702\" style=\"width: 582px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58702\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/qnap-is-blocking-sonos-1-to-block-list-1.jpg\" alt=\"Sonos is put on IP block list when setting up and accessing music library\" width=\"582\" height=\"631\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/qnap-is-blocking-sonos-1-to-block-list-1.jpg 582w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/qnap-is-blocking-sonos-1-to-block-list-1-277x300.jpg 277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 582px) 100vw, 582px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">QNAP message that Sonos has been blocked<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So if you don&#8217;t want to wait that long, you&#8217;ll have to unblock it first before moving on to actually solving the problem.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Solution_Use_SMB-1_for_sharing\"><\/span>Solution: Use SMB-1 for sharing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The underlying problem is that the old Sonos devices still use the outdated <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Server_Message_Block\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SMB<\/a>-1 protocol, which is considered highly insecure. This is a network protocol that allows and manages access to files and directories within a network.<\/p>\n<p>So if you want to continue using the functionality of network music sharing with an old Sonos device, you have to bite the bullet and continue using the old insecure SMB-1 protocol, which fortunately can still be adjusted. I think you have to weigh things up here. As long as you are only in a well-protected private network (island), which is well protected from the outside by a firewall\/router, I see few concerns.
