Convert USB stick from MBR to GPT.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In my backup software I had the problem, that I could not create a bootable media. Normally there is an option to convert the partition style. However, the option is missing for USB thumb drives. One option found on the internet was using &#8220;diskpart&#8221;. Since I did not want to fiddle around with the command line, I found the option to use Rufus. You can download the portable software from <a href=\"http:\/\/rufus.ie\/en\/\">the homepage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After starting the software we select the device (note that the content will be deleted), then for boot selection we choose &#8220;Non bootable&#8221;. After that we can also set the partition scheme. We can choose MBR or GPT.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/mbr_en_3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"538\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64753\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/mbr_en_3.png 474w, https:\/\/ekiwi-blog.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/mbr_en_3-264x300.png 264w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We then start the process. After the operation, we have a few autorun files on the drive, but we can simply delete these using Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>A look at the disk management shows that we are now using the other partition style.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Convert USB stick from GPT to MBR.
