Agonisingly slow update in Linux.
With a freshly installed Linux Mint, I wanted to install the updates. However, it took forever. Download times like in the best modem times. The data travelled over the line at just a few kB/s.

The suspicion was that the download was made from distant servers. This can be checked in the “Update Manager”.

I had American and British sources stored. Presumably America was the cause.

But we can easily change this. In my case, I have selected a German server here.

Done!

The package sources should then be updated.
sudo apt update
The update is now much faster.
