YouTube comments are only displayed to me, but not publicly

Interesting observation, my own comments are filtered or shadow banned on YouTube.

YouTube comments are answered

I try to reply to most YouTube comments whenever possible. Today I received a complaint that I hadn’t replied after 10 days. Checked, comment is there.

But only when I was on it with my YouTube account. With my private account, my own comment was not displayed. So the complaint was justified.

Kind of annoying, but what’s behind it? A few attempts to explain.

YouTube comments with links

I’ve already realised that YouTube doesn’t like comments with links. If viewers post something with a link, it is usually filtered out directly and I don’t see it. I also can’t activate it manually. It’s annoying because even useful feedback is not allowed here.

Links and own comments

My assumption so far has been that my own comments on my own video are not subject to such restrictions. I usually link to blog articles, which then answer the question.

However, this does not seem to be the case and these comments are also filtered.

Shadow ban

The perfidious thing is that I can’t see whether the comment is visible to others or not. I can see it myself. All that remains is to check with another account to see if it worked.

Why was the comment blocked?

I have checked various videos and comments, links are allowed. My guess is that the comment was too generic. “Look here” was probably too “spammy”, as spambots also make comments like this.

What remains?

I will continue to monitor this and check whether comments are displayed in future. I will also make sure that the comments are a little more detailed.

There are probably other comments that are not visible, which also explains why I often don’t get any feedback.
