Changing the hard disk and RAM on a Fujitsu Esprimo Q920.
I bought a mini PC from Fujitsu as my new server. Refurbished. It comes standard with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB HDD. I wanted to replace the latter with a 5 GB hard drive.
Open the case
There are a few screws on the back. The good thing is that we don’t have to loosen any of them. RAM and hard disk can be replaced without tools.
There are two tabs on the top and bottom, which only need to be moved upwards, then the respective panel can be released. At the top we have access to the internal speaker, at the bottom to the hard disk and RAM.
Once the plate is detached, we see another plate. Here we push down the green thing and can then pull off the metal plate.
Here we can already see the hard disk/SSD and the RAM. In my case, the SSD was fixed on one side with some hot glue. I had to remove this first, then I could pull the disk off.
Then attach the guide rails to the new panel and insert them. So far so good. What I hadn’t considered was that the 5 TB hard drive is somewhat higher. So the metal plate and cover could no longer be attached. This is unpleasant, but not a problem, as I’m just going to run the server like this for now. When set up, it is hardly noticeable, but if you want to use it in the office, you should take the height into account.
