No more cable clutter. USB cables that tidy up magnetically.
We now use USB cables on a daily basis; everyone probably has a few of them lying around. USB-C for charging laptops and smartphones, Apple users often still use Lightning, even though Apple now also has to jump on the USB-C bandwagon.
One problem with these cables is always the cable clutter. If I want to store a cable, I usually roll it up and it doesn’t stay in position. That’s annoying. This is where the magnetic cables from Magtame come into play. Small magnets are built into the cable to make it easier to roll up the cable. The cables then remain rolled up and in position.
In the company’s product videos, this is quick and easy, but let’s take a closer look.
The cables: USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C
I bought two cables, a classic USB-A to USB cable, which I use to charge my smartphone. This is not enough to charge my laptop, so I use a USB-C to USB-C cable, which I connect to my USB-C power adapter. Of course, the smartphone can also be charged with the last cable.
The manufacturer also offers other variants and colours, including Lightning for Apple users. Due to the special technology, the cables are slightly more expensive than normal cables.
The single cable is one metre long, the second USB-C to USB-C cable is 1.5 metres long, which is ideal for powering the laptop.

Processing and function
Let’s start with the obvious. The cables are solidly made. Both cables have a nylon sheath. The cable is available in either a flat or round shape. Otherwise, they are solidly made and look sturdy.
Technically, both cables work without any problems. The USB-C to USB-C cable can transfer up to 60 watts, which is also sufficient for my laptop.
Magnetic rewinding
Well, this is where the product video and reality differ slightly. In the manufacturer’s product videos, the cables roll up almost automatically by hand. In reality, I have to help a little. The magnets are not as strong. Presumably they don’t want other things to stick to them either.
When rolled up, the cable stays in position. The cable can also be partially rolled up during operation, so there is less cable lying around on the desk when you don’t need more length.
Even if the reality is somewhat different, the magic function is practical and minimises cable clutter and automatic unwinding.
Conclusion
I find the cables practical. Both have found their way into my cable bag. The magnetic function ensures that the cable is easy to tidy up. This could be even cooler, but hey. Otherwise, both cables work without any problems.
