Blank screen after start or after resizing the virtual Linux machine.
I recently had the problem, that my virtual Linux machine had a black screen after I installed the guest additions. This happens on my Surface device right after logging in, on my other computer after I resized the screen to a bigger size.
Well, what was the problem? It turned out that the virtual machine only had 16 MB of video memory assigned by default. This is not enough to display the screen with higher resolutions, which is especially a problem on my Microsoft Surface device, as it has a very high dense resolution. If the memory runs out, the virtual machine screen just turns black.
After increasing the memory size the screen no longer turned dark.
