Fehler bei Microsoft Office Installation: invalid file format specification field!

Today I wanted to install Microsoft Office in a virtual machine. The installation got stuck and nothing happened for ages. So I closed the window and tried again. All I got was an error message that the installation was already “installed”.

Well, nothing was installed yet, but the indication of the installation status was at least correct. There is an icon in the tray. This then also displayed an error message.

So something went wrong with the download.

Solution 1: Stop installation and try again

The first thing to try is to restart the installation. The process could not be terminated, so I restarted the computer and ran the installation again.

Solution 2: Offline Installer

If this does not work either, the Office Installer can be downloaded.

This downloads an image file, which can then be mounted as a drive by right-clicking. Here we can then carry out the installation without the installer itself having to download anything else.
