Ventoy USB: Start ISOs quickly and easily

Quickly start various ISOs from the USB stick.

I work a lot with USB sticks and ISO files. So far I have always used Rufus. It’s a quick and easy way to create a bootable data carrier, e.g. for Windows or Linux installation.

A good alternative for large USB sticks is Ventoy. Once installed on the USB stick, we can simply copy ISO files to the stick and then start them. This eliminates the need for constant formatting. This makes it ideal for correspondingly large USB sticks.

Install Ventoy

We download Ventoy from the project website. The tool is free of charge. We use the Windows version, Linux is also supported.

Basically there is not much to do after the start. We select the USB stick and click on “Install”. There is also an update option for sticks that have already been installed.

Warnings are issued that all data on the stick will be deleted.

Ventoy is then installed on the USB stick. This is also shown by the tool. We then only need to copy the ISO files to the Ventoy drive.

Booting ISO files

If we boot from the USB stick, a list of ISO files now appears, here we can now start the desired ISO. To manage the ISO files, we can simply delete or import an ISO file.

How is the Ventoy stick formatted

Let’s take a look behind the scenes! The Ventoy system occupies 32 MB in the data carrier management, the rest is available for ISO files.

Remove Ventoy

We can reset the stick using DISKPART. To do this, we simply delete the Ventoy partitions.
